Site Preparation Guide
A solid foundation is the key to a long-lasting building. Here’s everything you need to know to prepare your site.

Preparation Options

OPTION ONE
Gravel Pad
We strongly encourage a gravel pad for ease of leveling and for a maintenance-free shed. This is the gold standard for shed foundations.
- Use washed 2B limestone or similar sized gravel
- Lay 3–4 inches deep on top of landscaping fabric
- No need to remove sod unless ground is more than 8″ out of level
- Make the site 1′ longer and wider than actual building size
OPTION TWO
Concrete Blocks
A secondary option using concrete blocks, railroad ties, or pressure-treated material. Suitable for smaller buildings only.
- Place blocks every 6′ on each skid running the full length
- Use only for buildings 12′ wide and under
- Not suitable for garages or heavy equipment storage
- A gravel pad is still recommended over this method

Pro Tip
We strongly recommend a gravel pad for the easiest leveling and a truly maintenance-free shed experience. It’s the best investment you can make for your building’s longevity.
Skid Placement
When using blocks, place them every 6′ along each skid. Here’s how skids are positioned by building width.

CUSTOMER RESPONSBILITY
Why Site Preparation Matters
The site your building will sit on is one of the most important things to consider. If it allows your building to shift or sink, it can create problems and decrease the life of the shed.

Prevents Shifting
A proper foundation keeps your building stable and secure through all seasons.

Extends Lifespan
Buildings on solid bases last significantly longer with fewer maintenance issues.

Reduces Repairs
Avoid costly future repairs caused by settling, warping, or moisture damage.
